“The Art of Esoteric Dance in Jerusalem”
In Jerusalem(1982) I was working with a female dancer on some post modern concepts of dance atmospherics... dancing outside within the present and past contexts... what better place than Jerusalem to do it in! It was a brilliant sunny day.
I decided to take her to Solomon's pool. it is situated Just outside Jaffa gate, (at the foot of Mt. Zion where Solomon and King David is purported to be buried)
There is a drop of about 60-80 ft to the bottom from the main road that runs along the walls of the old city... I saw some two large flat stones at the bottom and we went there to perform... I guided her into a meditative state of surrender to gravity and dance with the silent witness consciousness of the stone; we lay there on our backs spread out embracing the sun as we slipped out of consciousness...
Soon we were awakened by someone yelling in our direction... I opened my eyes to see this man standing over us asking us if we were alright... we surfaced quickly while he kept asking if we were alright over and over again... I looked up and saw an ambulance and a tour bus parked on the road above us, the people standing on the edge looking down and taking pictures... I said: "We were dancing..." he said: "What do you mean you are dancing you are not moving! We thought you fell and were hurt!" Finally I said: "We are dancing with the rocks! They are not moving either!".... I moved out of Israel shortly after...
